The Kara was adopted by the West German Airborne 1974-1990s. They we used to equip the command and support companies of each battalion. These lightweight vehicles could be folded in half for transport by helicopter or for parachute drop. They could carry up to 750kg in cargo or 2 stretcher patients. Specialist versions were built to carry TOW missiles, 20mm cannon, 120mm mortars or Radio equipment. 860 manufactured
