Cavalry assault version of the M113 with 50cal turret and waist gunners made famous in the Vietnam war. A field improvisation the developed into a standard kit.

M163 Vulcan Air Defence System
Often refered to as VADS, based on the M113, it’s Vulcan cannon is capable of 4000 rpm. The turret is powered and has a radar rangefinder but realies on operator skill and clear weather to hit aircraft targets. Used in the Veitnam war and the Isreali Lebonon conflict.

This development of the M1 replaced the 105mm gun with the German designed 120mm L44 smoothbore gun. This version entered service in 1986 with its distinctive longer turret.
It had improved armour, gunnery, NBC protection and ammunition storage. These served with distinction in the 1st Gulf war.
