The Merkava developed by Israel in 1979 incorporated some unique features, the engine is located at the front and there is a small door in rear. These features allow the tank to be resupplied while still in action. The tank also has a limited personnel carrying capacity. This is an early version with turret chain defence added to protect against the rear shot trap.
