The M988 ITV (Improved TOW Vehicle) replaced the earlier TOW armed M113s with an enclosed turret that can “pop-up” to look over terrain and fire missiles while the carrier remains hidden. Entered service in the mid 80s and served through the 1st Gulf war.
The M109A2 was developed to address the limited range of the earlier M109; it also featured an improved turret with extra ammunition storage. Introduced into the US army in 1979, and exported to many NATO members such as the UK and West Germany.
Considred the first MBT, developed at the end of WW2 and some modernised vehicles are still in use. This 1950s version was armed with the effective 84mm 20pdr B gun with fume extractor. Used by India extensively in the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971 and gaining notable superiority over the M48 Patton.
