The HMMVW or Humvee came into service in 1984. The Humvee gradualy replaced the Ford MUT and military light trucks as troop, weapons and cargo carrier. Over 190, 000 have been built and sold around the world. The first M988 versions had load capacity of 1100kg and had no armour it was fitted with a fabric roof and doors.

Often refered to as VADS, based on the M113, it’s Vulcan cannon is capable of 4000 rpm. The turret is powered and has a radar rangefinder but realies on operator skill and clear weather to hit aircraft targets. Used in the Veitnam war and the Isreali Lebonon conflict.

The A2 variant was developed in 1979 from experience in the Vietnam and Arab Israeli wars; The fuel storage was moved from inside the passenger compartment to armoured tanks either side of the rear ramp. The engine and suspension were upgarded. The A3 variant included improved controls, engine and protective spall liner.
