Red3 came about from my interests; History, modelmaking and wargaming. I have always had a fascination for WW2 history and grew up in the Cold War era. I decided to try to grasp the vast making opportunities of the Cold War which included much WW2 equipment through to the 1970 and 80s.

The start of the Cold War is linked to the end of WW2 in 1945. The war finished with a divided Europe as East and West faced each other with opposed views of the future. The “Iron Curtain” had fallen creating a hostile border.  The constant and real threat of nuclear war held an uneasy peace for almost 40 years. In this time there were many proxy wars as each side tried to gain the upper hand.

The Cold War era saw a number “show downs” between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, some well-known such as the Cuban Missile crisis 1962 some less so, Able Archer 1984.

In 1991 tensions finally eased with the disintegration of the Warsaw Pact and reunification of Germany. We may well now be in Cold War v2 as tensions rise again – Steve
