The M109 was introduced into the US army in 1963 giving the 155mm Howitzer protection and mobility. It was exported to 21 countries seeing combat in the Vietnam and Arab-Israeli conflicts. (the photograph depicts a model in Israeli service with extra items from the AC3 stowage pack)
