Sdkfz 234-1 8 wheeled armoured car, developed to replace the 231 heavy armoured cars. This design incorporated an air cooled diesel for use in hot climates, there was room for a crew of 4 where the radio operator could drive the vehicle backwards in and emergency. These vehicles combined great cross country performance and long range. Armed with a 20mm cannon these opperated in troops combined with a Sdkfz 234-3 or 234-4 75mm armed vehicles. Approximately 200 built.
